Lightning fist kung fu

This post has been replaced by a new version of Lightning fist.

In the continuing saga of the creation of Proud Leopard, soldier of the Heaven and Earth clan, it is now time to create his kung fu style. This style is Lightning Fist, a common yet powerful form of kung fu that specialises in lightfoot and fast attacks.

Lightning Fist kung fu

Lightning fist kung fu is based on speed and power and teaches the following core abilities which are available as uses of the Concentrate Chi class feature:

Chi Speed       [Concentrate Chi] 1
You move across the battlefield in the blink of an eye, striking foes at will.
Encounter *
Move Action          Personal
Effect: You shift a number of squares equal to your movement speed ignoring difficult terrain for this movement.

Flurry of Blows   [Concentrate Chi] 1
You attack with a barrage of
strikes
Encounter * Implement
Instant reaction   Melee touch
Target: One creature
Special: This power is triggered when you successfully hit a target with another attack
Effect: Add your Dexterity modifier to the damage of the other attack

Advanced training in Lightning fist includes the following powers at level 1:

Lightning Strike        Kung fu 1
A blast of lightning chi shoots from your palm, engulfing your foe
Encounter * Implement, Lightning
Standard Action             Range 5
Special: Choose either Dex or Wis as the statistic used to attack with this power. If Dex is chosen for attack then Con is used for damage. If Wis is chosen for attack then Cha is used for damage. You may not change the statistics after initially learning the power.
Target: one creature
Attack: Dex vs. Reflex or Wis vs. Reflex
Damage: 2[W] + Con modifier damage or 2[W] + Cha modifier damage. The weapon used is the character’s current unarmed kung fu weapon.

Lightning Stance    Kung fu 1
You strike all nearby foes in with lightning chi powering your blows
Daily * Stance, Weapon, Lightning
Standard Action       Melee weapon
Special: Choose either Dex or Wis as the statistic used to attack with this power. If Dex is chosen for attack then Con is used for damage. If Wis is chosen for attack then Cha is used for damage. You may not change the statistics after initially learning the power.
Half the damage from this power is lightning damage.
Target: one, two or three creatures
Attack: Dex vs. Reflex or Wis vs. Reflex
Damage: 2[W]+ Con modifier damage or 2[W] + Cha modifier damage. The weapon used is the character’s current unarmed kung fu weapon.
Miss: Half damage
Effect: You assume the lightning stance. Until the end of the encounter you add 2 to your movement speed and may shift 2 squares as a move action.

Lightning fist kung fu will include powers at the following levels:

  • level 5: a utility power
  • level 7: another encounter power
  • level 9: another stance

Lightning fist does dot teach any at-Will powers, since it does not specifically teach special hand to hand attacks.

This concludes the first kung fu style description in Dragon In Ninth Heaven.

Why is chi speed a teleport power?

I would have though something along the line of ‘shift move speed’ or ‘shift move speed ignoring difficult terrain’.

As it is now you can use ‘speed’ to travel through walls and leap over chasms. I would have though chi teleport and chi leap would be the appropriate powers there 🙂 Also having it related to move rather than 5 means it’s stack with the stance movement increase.

The above reply is a perfect example of why when tired you should rest before posting.. Otherwise I end up with an appalling number of mistakes and broken sentences in a reply I can’t even edit. Oh well, I think it’s still readable 🙂

    Hi Cynan,

I’ve updated the post to remove the teleportation. I’ll put in some keywords later, because I removed one on the Chi Speed.
